Scandinavian born contralto Marit Sauramo studied voice and acting at the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and at the Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg.

She made 1979 her Opera debut at the National Opera of Finland as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser.


Ms. Sauramo has performed in 16 countries, giving Oratorio, Concert and Opera appearances in many venues including the opera houses in Helsinki, Copenhagen, Dublin, Amsterdam, Moscow, Nantes, Oviedo, Madrid, Bern, St.Gallen, Geneva, Vienna, Hannover, Dortmund, Munich, Berlin (all three theaters), Cologne and Düsseldorf, as well as at the Bayreuth Festival, the Eutin Summer Festival, the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Wexford Festival.


Working together with renowned conductors such as Yves Abel, Gerd Albrecht, Roman
Brogli-Sacher, Srboljub Dinić, Alberto Erede, Georg Fischer, Hans Graf, Marco Guidarini, Michael Halasz, Will Humburg, Marek Janowski, Armin Jordan, Eri Klas, Siegfried Köhler, Jiri Kout, Sir John Pritchard, Ari Rasilainen, Nello Santi, Peter Schneider, Leif Segerstam, Stefan Soltesz, Horst Stein, Otmar Suitner, Ulf Söderblom, Jeffrey Tate, Neil Varon, Osmo Vänskä, Hiroshi Wakasugi, Hans Wallat and Klaus Weise.


Ms.Sauramo has performed an Opera Repertoire consisting of more than 100 lead  roles. 


Marit Sauramo lives currently in Switzerland, teaching singing as an accredited teacher of EVTA and SMPV . Since 2010 Artistic Director of GomsOpera Summer Academy.
